Part 3.  The Davis family, The Morgan Horse Club, and Promoting our Morgans…

Ted Davis was quoted as saying “It’s the Morgan people that make the Morgan world what it is.”

From the time that the Morgans were first introduced to Wind-Crest the entire Davis family was active in the promotion of the breed.  At Wind-Crest, Patty remembers “We did everything with our Morgans” and you’d see them with different Wind-Crest prefix horses at the shows, on the 50 mile and 100 mile Woodstock rides and working their stock up and down the hills.  She remembers that “our horses were quite capable of being used.”  Listen to her talk about this here...

Showing their Morgans was a family effort and Patty has wonderful memories of taking time off from school to exhibit at the Deerfield Fair.  She remembers that on one occasion she was away at school and was to meet her family at the Harrisburg, PA show.  Concerned about having Patty travel solo, Ted arranged her train to be met in New York City by Frank B. Hills (The Morgan Horse Club Secretary) to help get her to the show.  She remembers him as being very proper and a “wonderful man” saying although she didn’t recall him as owning any Morgans, that he was “Very much a Morgan person.”
