When you ask most of our longstanding members about our first New York Morgan Show, they're able to tell you about their horse, or a particular class, but Curt was the Club Treasurer at the time.  As is the case with any good Treasurer, he had his facts straight...so here are some valuable insights into our very first show - as recorded by Curt Smith:

Length of Show; 2 days
Number of Entries; 96
Location:  Syracuse, NY   State Fair Coliseum

Let's stop here for a moment, and listen to Curt share a story about how badly he wanted to break 100 head count.

Listen to Curt's story - Dial-up (for slower connections) or High Speed (cable or ISDN lines)

Here are some other interesting facts and figures:

- Stall fees $5.00
- Entry Fees for Performance Classes $3.00 & $5.00
- For classes with $5.00 entry fee payout was $20, 15, 10, 5, 5 and six ribbons to those
- Entry Fee for Stake Classes $10.00
- For classes with $10.00 entry fee prize Money was $30, 25, 15, 10, 10 and eight ribbons

The club was also fortunate in that other people and groups wanted a "Morgan Horse Show" at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

Curt recalls that the Officials at the State Fairgrounds gave the NYSMHS some concessions on the use of the Barn & Grounds.

Both the Judge (Arthur J. Titus) and the Announcer (E.M. Jack Timmons) had offered to to the show for less than their normal fee.  Curt was extremely happy to present them checks for their full normal charges at the close of the show.

Mr. Gordon Voorhis of Red Hook, NY gave Curt a check for $500.00 and told him that any amount over and above his entry and stall fees could be used in any way the Club wished towards the cost of the show.

Again as a result of the successful show, Curt was able to forward a check to Mr. Voorhis, repaying him for the thoughtful "Gift" portion of his $500.00.
