Hats Off to Mark Langdon, I recently saw and read cover to cover a copy of the Trader. It is great, as I have always said " this is the only communication many of the members have with the club and it needs to be quality" Mark has done this and brought the Trader to new heights. Again Hats off and good job to Mark. The members of your club need to say thank you to all your volunteers and you can start with Mark.  Marilyn Ackerman

RE: Nemours Vice Regal

Hi, Does anyone recall this gelding. I would like to know how and when he was shown. He has resided in the Buffalo, NY area for some time. (Lord Appleton X Nemours Lady Pompadour).
Thanks, Marilyn Nelson  nelsond17@windstream.net Jamestown, NY

Update,  Kathryn Daly of colwilrin@yahoo.com responded:

I remember him from the late 90's-early 00's. A family named the Vacco's had him and their young daughter showed him saddleseat at some of the local open shows and county fairs. I think that he was also trail ridden as the family also had QH's and did that sort of thing. She did fairly well with him. As I recall, she was a nice little rider and didn't have any trouble with "regal". She ended up selling him when she went through a growth spurt and became much too large to look in proportion with him.

News from Parlor View Farm...From: Debora Kieffer dkieffer@aomc.org

Subject: Babies @ Parlor View Farm

The barn is now FULL---a strapping chestnut colt (aka Dickens) by Dragonfire's Kirin x JPR Have Mercy arrived on April 15th and a beautifully refined, up headed dark bay filly out of Rosevale Leggo x PVF Song of the Siren (White Rock's Caliopy x JPR Have Mercy) greeted us 2 weeks later on April 29th-Rosie is already trying to boss the colt around! Dickens makes his television debut soon in a local commercial for the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Very fun!
To NYSMHS Members from Jeff Evans, President, NYSMHS (dated 5/28/08):

Last October Naomi Blumenthal and I went to the Onondaga County Convention & Visitors Bureau to introduce the Equine Alley project and discuss the need for the tourism group's involvement in the promotion of horse shows at the NY State Fairgrounds.  They took good notes and used them to apply for a state grant, which as you can see by the press release below has been approved.  Total funding is ~$100k after matching funds from the counties.

I will be meeting with the President of the Bureau within the next two weeks to discuss the implementation plan.  Your thoughts on how we can use this effort to help promote our regional horse show would be appreciated.  Please note that this grant is fairly limited in focus to promotion of horse shows.  Facilities and breed specific spending are excluded.

Grant to Promote Horse Shows
Madison County, Syracuse to jointly promote CNY for bookings
Posted Tuesday, May 27, 2008 By Rick Moriarty Staff writer

Syracuse may not be horse country, but tourism officials believe it can be a horse show capital.

The Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau received a matching $45,000 grant earlier this month from Empire State Development, the state's economic development agency, to promote Onondaga and Madison counties as places to hold equestrian events.

The money will be used to publish materials that promote the area to the sponsors of horse shows and will be matched by $45,000 from the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau and Madison County's tourism office. Read the rest of the story here....

From our Trader:  The Carol Russo Walk-Trot Division offered at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg, New York 2008

Since the passing of Carol Russo we have offered a whole division of walk-trot classes at the Erie County Fair in her name. Carol loved The Erie County Fair, and loved watching the young riders show.

So in her memory we offer the walk-trot division at the beginning of the fair (Quarter horse division) August 7-9, 2008 and the last part of the fair during (the Morgan and Arab division) August 15-17, 2008.

These young riders can be riding any breed of horse. They need to be 12 or younger. And cannot ride in any walk-trot-canter classes offered at the fair.

The class list and entry forms are on line at: www.americas-fair.com.
Click on competitive exhibits then, Click Horse Shows then, Click either the Western or English division. In the Western division: click on classes and scroll down to the Carol Russo Division.
In the English Division you will find these classes listed at the end of the Arabian Division.

Please spread the word about Carol Russo Division. Come watch these classes and cheer on these wonderful young riders. Any questions please contact: Judy Manchester-Vassie at 716-662-9408 or at QLEA@aol.com
